Year-End Giving Campaign
Moms in our community need your support. Moms like Evelyn.
Evelyn grew up in a loving home, but under challenging circumstances with a single mother who barely spoke English and had to work two jobs to make ends meet. They received no assistance from the state or Evelyn’s father and Evelyn reflected, “My mom did what she could to get us by and never gave up, but in my 35 years of life I’ve never had stability.”
Evelyn became a mother to 3 beautiful boys. Unfortunately, their father became abusive and controlling. She shared, “He would kick us out of the house at random times. I would pack what I could if he let me, but some days he wouldn’t let me take anything. We would stay in hotels or my truck.” Beaten down by the cycle of abuse, Evelyn was desperate to find a safe place for her and her boys to live.
No little girl grows up dreaming of being a single mom. The events that bring them to this reality are challenging and complicated to say the least. And yet, each of the single moms who become a part of Fellowship Housing is filled with determination and courage. They all desire the same thing--to create a better life, a better legacy for their children. They simply need someone to come alongside them and extend A Hand Up.
Please consider a generous gift to our year-end campaign, A Hand Up. Two years into our 5-year expansion plan, Fellowship Housing has grown from serving 24 families at a time to 50 throughout Cook, DuPage, Kane and McHenry Counties. But there are still at-risk single moms in the Chicagoland area who need A Hand Up so they can build a better future for their family.
After googling ‘homeless shelters for single moms,’ Evelyn found Fellowship Housing.
“I wanted to cry with excitement. I knew God was answering my prayers when they told me I got into the program. I felt such a weight lifted off my shoulders. My kids and I finally had a roof over our heads where no one was going to kick us out. We had stability.”
With a supportive and healthy environment, Evelyn was able to go to therapy and reconnect with her faith as she healed mentally and emotionally and worked toward her goals. Over the last two years, Evelyn was able to save $25,000, lost 140 lbs. as she focused on her physical health, and she closed on her Habitat for Humanity home over the summer.
Please consider a generous gift to support more single moms, like Evelyn, in our community. Reaching even more families requires MORE resources! Fellowship Housing is at a critical point in our expansion. Adding more affordable housing and program staff requires more support! Will you give prayerfully and generously this year end toward the vision that God has laid out before us – to serve 60 families at a time by the end of 2025 and ultimately 80 families at a time by 2028? Thank you...SO MUCH!!
